Support Services

Birth Doula Care

My goal as a doula is to support expectant families as they navigate the twists and turns of labor and delivery. My role often changes based on the wishes and expectations of the laboring family. But in all cases, I strive to help my clients find their body’s innate birthing wisdom and to assist them as they make decisions regarding their care when needed. My job is not to speak for my clients, but rather to help them interpret the medical information and be a sounding board so they can advocate for themselves and to make the decisions that are right for their body and their birth.

Childbirth can an amazingly transformative experience. Labor is hard work and rarely painless, but that doesn't mean labor should be feared or that the pain of labor should be avoided at all costs. People who are supported - emotionally, physically, and with information - can have an empowering experience as they bring their babies into the world.

My doula package is $2,800 and includes the following:

  • a complimentary interview

  • two prenatal visits

  • phone and e-mail support during your pregnancy and early postpartum

  • continuous labor support

  • 2-3 hours of postpartum assistance (immediately following the birth)

  • 1 or more postpartum visits

  • access to my personal collection of birth-related books and videos as well as my baby carrier collection.

Childbirth Education

An important step in preparing for birth is choosing a childbirth education class. The type of class taken can have a great impact on one’s expectations of birth. Ideally, the class will not only teach what to expect in labor, but it should also inform families of the options they have throughout the labor and delivery process.

As an educator, I help expectant couples explore the variety of choices available to them to ensure that the process of birth is as rewarding as the outcome. In addition, my classes cover emotional and physiological changes during labor; hospital intervention; medical and non-medical pain coping options; and partner support techniques.

My current childbirth class offerings include:

  • Sutter Health—For over 15 years I have taught childbirth and prenatal yoga classes through Sutter Health. I currently teach their virtual Livestream class twice monthly, which combines an online, self-paced class with a virtual Q&A. In addition, I teach Sutter’s in-person (Santa Cruz) Baby Bundle Hybrid class, that provides hands on skills practice for labor and newborn care.

  • Private and/or semi-private classes—I offer individually designed classes to meet the needs of families interested in a private or semi-private class. My rate is $75 per hour, with a minimum of 4 hours. Please contact me directly for more information or to schedule a class.
